Use this template to create a press release to send to local journalists.
You may use this sample press release to let the news media know about your participation in the national PowerUP! movement and to promote your specific volunteer recruiting needs. For each area in red, please fill in your own customized information. Print the press release on your letterhead, and be sure to include your contact information.
To determine where to send your press release, look at your local newspapers, magazines, community newsletters and/or blogs, as well as your area TV and radio stations. Which ones cover news on similar topics—aging, volunteering, civic engagement, human interest stories?
Then sleuth some more. Which reporters at those media outlets cover those types of stories? Those journalists are the ones to which you can send this press release. Look up their contact information or call the media outlet to find it if needed, then send the release. You may want to call or email them a few days later to ask if they received it and if they would like more information. Good luck!
