Use this to use volunteer instructors to create a lifelong learning program.

This What’s Working Replication Guide shows how, through the urging of one volunteer, The University Express lifelong learning program was developed. The program engages highly skilled adults aged 55+ as volunteer instructors to offer free, high-quality academic classes for older adults at senior centers located throughout the county.  It also has served as an effective recruitment tool by drawing a large pool of active older adults as potential RSVP volunteers.

This program is one of 13 honored by The Aging Network’s Volunteer Collaborative for providing, in response to the 2012 Call for What’s Working, exceptional tips on how to build a strong volunteer program.
