San Francisco Department of Aging and Adult Services is very pleased and grateful for the opportunity to co-sponsor the PowerUp Training with N4A. As an Area Agency on Aging (AAA), we recognize the critical importance and value that volunteers play for non-profit organizations with the growing need for services to older adults and people with disabilities. AAAs and non-profit organizations often don’t have adequate resources for volunteer training. What’s exciting is that PowerUp is an evidence-based model to engage older adults in meaningful volunteer projects which are not only impactful, but self-sustaining. This training is an excellent investment for the volunteers and non-profits alike. What’s more, resources and technical assistance are provided to PowerUp participants to help them to succeed in their projects.

    Toast Tuesday…
Today, nearly 4,000 volunteers ranging in age from 40 to 99 are instructing and promoting AARP Smart Driver Courses. By doing so, they are helping their peers stay sharp behind the wheel and connected to friends, family and their communities.

One of those extraordinary volunteers is Arizona resident Fenwick “Tom” Burch. Tom spent many years of his professional life with the Arizona Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Division.
