WEBINAR: Mobility Management Series: Transportation Options Counseling for Older Adults
Presented by the National Center on Senior Transportation (NCST)
This series of webinars features presentations by the National Center on Senior Transportation’s Spring 2012 grantees detailing their unique approaches to implementing mobility management for older adults. Featured will be speakers from Greater Lynn Senior Services in Lynn, MA, and Community Council of Greater Dallas (TX) with a focus on their Transportation Options Coordination and Travel Counseling Programs. The Greater Lynn Senior Services program developed and disseminated a toolkit and curriculum to integrating the Travel Counseling function at multiple sites and trained volunteer Travel Coaches/Peer Guides to provide mobility management support to individuals. Kiosks for Living Well (interactive access to mobility and livability support within the community) were introduced and managed by a core of volunteer Kiosk Advisors. The Community Council of Greater Dallas Developed and launched MY RIDE Dallas, a one-stop, mobility management resource for seniors, family caregivers and adults with disabilities.
NCST defines the term person-centered mobility management at two levels: at the individual level it means one-on-one or group education and counseling on transportation options and alternatives to driving. At the systems level, mobility management is intended to facilitate coordination among transportation and human services providers and ensure the availability of a range of transportation options and modes to support older adult mobility in communities throughout the U.S.
